Snowshoe and winter hiking in Obertauern
Snow shoe hiking
and winter hiking
It’s not just the perfectly groomed pistes in Obertauern’s great ski area that fulfil the wildest winter dreams.
Snowshoe hiking routes
One of the most beautiful snowshoe hiking areas can be found in the Gnadenalm area, about 4 kilometres before Obertauern. From here you can climb up to the Südwiener Hütte and enjoy the breathtaking mountain scenery of the Radstädter Tauern. Past frozen streams, through the snow-covered winter forest and across pure white snow carpets. Here in Obertauern, for example, you can hike along the Hundsfeld trail to the World Cup trail or climb up to the Seekar.
Steiner again.
Obertauerna gain.
...must be love.
What equipment
for snow shoe hiking?
Hiking is not only fun on dry ground in summer and autumn. In winter you can experience nature in its white magic. You can hike either with or without snowshoes. On cleared winter hiking trails you don’t need anything except warm winter clothing and sturdy hiking boots. If you are going off-road and into deeper snow, you will need snowshoes, which are strapped under your normal winter boots. If you don’t bring your own, you can rent state-of-the-art equipment in Obertauern’s sports shops. Then you are ready to go!
